Now it's time to talk a bit about wedding customs in Serbia :D
These pictures are things that people gave when they came to weddings.
In most patriarchal societies, including the communities in the Pannonian zone, every sexually mature and adult man was obliged to get married, and thereby perpetuate his family name. Young men used to get married between the ages of eighteen and twenty, while girls were married when they were between sixteen and eighteen years of age.
Bearing in mind the complexity of ritual pratices, the cycle of wedding customs can be divided into several units. Thewedding was preceded by some pre wedding ceremonies: getting to know the bride, matchmaking, assessing her wealth, the proposal, the engagement, preparing wedding presents. The wedding itself began by making flowers wreaths at the groom's and the bride's homes, the hen-party and the strag-party, carrying the bride's equipment, guest-gathering, going to fetch the bride, bringing out the bride and hanging her over to the groom's brother, lunch at the bride's home, leaving the parent's home and going to the wedding ceremony. After the wedding ceremony, the bride was taken to the new home and the wedding feast continued during a banquet at the groom's home. It was followed by the wedding night, the morning ceremony, s ritual in which the bride poured water onto the hands of the best man and the guest, and the seeing-off of the best man and the guests. The post-wedding ceremonies included: the first visit of the bride's parents and relatives to the newly-weds, as well as introducing the bride to the circle of married women. Presents and return-presents were very important during the entire wedding cycle, both ftom the groom's and the bride's side.
The indispensable participants in a wedding feast included: the best man(kum), stari svat - the groom's uncle, dever - the groom's brother, good news-carriers, vojvoda and his wife, young men making jokes - causi, krtani or fiferi, bride's female friends - jenge, the male child called nakonce.
