These butterflies occurs in woodlands near rivers and streams, wooded suburbs, canyons, parks, and roadsides.
They feed on nectar, mainly from thistles, abelia, California buckeye, zinnia, and yerba santa.
This one I photographed in the wooded private lake access in my housing community.
