I think the only thing that gained ground was "Evil Races" thing from last year. But there are toxic people in any fandom, tabletop gaming is no exception. I know one of the local game store owners has banned several people for "Hate" painted armies.

As far as game systems, I recommend the Genesys RPG if you can get your head wrapped around the dice. Its a blast to play. The only thing it doesn't do really well is Superhero/High Power game play. Its not really built for it.
