I remember reading an article about how this person would name there character by closing their eyes and hitting two random letters on the keyboard and then put a vowel between them. Like Cov, or Dar, or Nug.

I adopted it for most of my MMO naming, with just a small tweak. I would double up the second consonant and add a vowel at the end. like Vinnu or Tanni. Its simple enough for first names, then you just add a quality or profession to make a last name.
