In my last post I described how I was disappointed over the well grown plants not flowering as expected. Last year around this time, my garden was full of flowers and honey bees. This year, even I was thinking to put up a bee box to collect some honey. Still I worked hard to continue planting new hopes, expecting them to reward me at least in this month, as the effect of winter has started. But this weather is really killing everything this year.
After around couple of weeks, I planted those small trees, they were growing well. And even the grown up trees started flowering - may be the nature saw my hive blog and thought to not disappoint me fully. So I was a bit happy, with the expectation that, the new ones will quickly catch up and until then, the old ones can at least give some flowers for my daily need. So I did give them the care they needed - some very good Vermicompost. Usually I bring it from a store at 10/- per kg, but the good one was double the price. Considering the price of satisfaction that we get from these activities, I went for the good one and gave it to these trees.
Were they not looking very healthy ? They were definitely growing well and would have come up with flowers by now. But see what happened
Some insect herds came over because of this bad weather and started eating up their strength. I would not have known, if my son had not told me. Since I am moving between places ( this and my native place), I have taught him to water these plants. At least this way, he gets some early training and interest towards plants. He told me that, when he is watering them, some kind of insects come out of those trees. I had similar experience few years back and I could quickly realize what must be going on. They even did not spare the spinach - Usually they eat up the soft ones. I have tried Neem oil on them, but seems they are strong enough to resist the smell of Neem. And you cannot visualize them - they are green in color and will stick to these trees. Clever they are.
So I went to a local shop and got this poison and sprayed them over all plants. We need to be little careful - mix only that much, which is needed as it has a very strong smell. Else it may also burn the plants. I am now not very optimistic that they will come up well again - I feel like they are handicapped now. So as a back up plan, I took small small plants from a local nursery and planted them to grow at my native place, so that I can replant them. Let's see how these handicapped ones survive.
I have not been able to post about my effort going to nuts in my native place (may be I will post about that), but this weather is killing everything this year. As of writing this post, its raining heavily since last two days. It's all because of low pressure, the situation at many places in south India is alarming. I wonder why so many low pressure happening so frequently - is Nature warning us ?
And the fun part is my son was asking, if we will die, if we consume that poison - I told him, you can try 馃榾 - You will not die for sure - but the pains will be worth remembering life time.
