Young Luke Skywalker is being raised on a moisture farm in the desert, in the 1st star wars film. They have machines that extract humidity from the air to produce potable water. I'm not certain how cost effective the technology is but it does exist and can be bought. It will essentially consume electricity like a normal appliance and condense water vapor into water.
