Greetings friends of the Hive community!
Giving continuity to my thematic series on the study of soil from an agricultural point of view, I would like to present this new post entitled: Reacción del suelo referido al estudio y análisis del ph.
The soil reaction has to do with the acidity of the soils or salinity which is what we look for with this the (PH) in the soils that indicates its degree of acidity if we form a formula from 0 to 14
We have three types of soil acidity, in theory many actors say 6.3 or 7.3 but in the graph I represent that between 6 and 7 are neutral soils which would be ideal, in soil laboratories the first thing that is done is a routine analysis is the pH in the soil, because it will indicate to me what the degree of fertility of those soils is.
In the graph, he's going to represent to me that between 6 and 7 are neutral soils, which means that we have a very fertile soil where we're going to have any type of crop, because we're not going to have any agronomic militant of the soil's acidity, which means that no micro nutrient and macro nutrient in problems of limitation because there's no acidity, the aluminum chains (AL) and the hydrogen chains (H) don't exist because they're both responsible for the acidity or they're the elements of the minerals responsible for the acidity of the soil.
We take a sample to the soil laboratory, and if it gives us a pH of 1, which means that if we go to the previous graph and see that we go below 5 we have slightly acid, moderately acid, very acid and when we reach pH 1 it is very strongly acid, but when we start working from 8 onwards until pH 14 we have basic soils, which are these basic soils, we can find them there.
With ph 8, 9, 10, until reaching ph 14
***What are the measures or amendments taken to lower the acidity of the soil?
Break the hydrogen and aluminum chains by applying whitewash, because we apply whitewash, because what we want is to break those aluminum and hydrogen chains to be able to release the macro and micro nutrients.
In the soil resource there are some small spaces where the aluminum and hydrogen attract is related to the physics negative charges and positive charges, when one element is positively charged and the other is negatively charged are attracted when they are of the same charge are repelled, then when there are high chains of aluminum and hydrogen we will find acidic soils to break these chains are released because the macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients are present in the soil, when we apply whitewashing apply.
What we get in the market with the name phosphorite and dolomite are used because both are rich in calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate which helps us to break the chains of aluminum and hydrogen as that result of releasing the macro and micro nutrients will be seen in time depending on the acidity of the soil, when the chains are broken we release the micro nutrients and macro-nutrient are available to plants.
We have crops that adapt to acidic soils like this.
African palm.
Rice.
Beans.
Pine.
Pineapple.
Banana.
Cambur.
Maralfalfa grass.
Guinea grass.
But there are crops that require a soil with a ph 6, 7, 8, 9 because they lack nutrients and the crop doesn't reach the extremes of withering or the crop dying, that's why we say that it is very important to test the soil before establishing a crop, because we don't know if that crop adapts to the soil or not.
As it could be the integral management of the basic soils that would be saline, sodium and saline sodium, there is a mineral called gypsum which will help us to lower the salinity and sodium of the soils, and instead of being 8 or 9 can be 7 or 6 lower the ph, Another way would be using the irrigation systems but we must take precautions regarding the irrigation system because we must know the organoleptic characteristics of the water, know which is the source because it could be that to this water resource could be pouring some chemical, caustic soda, fertilizer or other petroleum products such as gasoline, oil, diesel that could counteract the quality of water.
Water quality?
Water purity.
Consistency of the water.
Odor.
Color.
When we talk about an irrigation system to lower the salts we would first have to evaluate which are the organoleptic conditions of the water that are alkaline waters.
Here we are talking about crops because we want to eliminate the use of synthetic minerals and see which crops are adapted to the acidity level of the soil, whether they are acidic or basic soils. For example, in the Venezuelan Guajira we have saline and sodium soils, the predominant vegetation there is the cují, a garden plant, which is used to make charcoal, the aloe vera, which is used as a drug, which is not used commercially, and goats, because they adapt to these conditions, which the cují serves as food for them.
