Upkeep of your books is an important aspect of your personality. One has to keep his/her books clean and tidy and I can say my son has done a wonderful job. Though he has a bad handwriting, he has maintained his text books well. Throughout the year I had kept telling him to keep his books in good condition so that someone could use it after him.

Today I went to the school library and handed the librarian the set of used books. It is good if someone could use these books again. Books won't cost much and I am pretty sure people in his school are rich enough to afford those sets of books, but then printing and recycling papers can cause great damage to the environment. Many trees are cut to make those papers.
The chemicals used in the ink are washed and drained in the river causing great damage to the aquatic life. Now, I don't say that we should stop recycling completely, because there is no alternative, but we surely can reduce our consumption by not simply discarding books that are good for another year.
I don't mind if my son uses hand me down textbooks that are in good condition and I believe there is no reason to say, NO.
