This tag #ttt was started by @ablaze and as he says:
every Tuesday I pick three songs, sometimes all three from the same artist, sometimes three tunes from a particular genre, other times three songs from a certain country - you get the idea. I've always asked others to get involved and over the past few weeks, that is exactly what's happened and we now have some ThreeTune regulars which is fantastic! The ask is to basically choose three songs to share. You can sing them or hum them or just pick three from an artist you love like I do, which is what most people do each week.
I am going to kick off with 3 songs from my favourite band... it's the music I head to whenever I find myself happy, sad, or needing to work through some thoughts or feelings.
It's truly the music I turn to when I'm
Hanging by a moment, Breathing through the Storm
This was such a difficult choice to select just 3 songs because, quite frankly, there is not a single song of theirs that I do not love. I am a massive fan馃槏
I have seen this band live in concert and they are incredible. I also met them for a photo opp before one of their London shows a few years back (photo at the end of this post - I went with my younger brother standing to my right in the checked shirt, who is also a big fan).
Their lead singer and songwriter, Jason Wade, has quite simply one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard... and he's really lovely too.
Background
Jason's parents were missionaries and he ministered himself for a bit. His lyrics are heavily influenced by spirituality and Christianity although Lifehouse has marketed itself as an alt-rock band, first and foremost, as opposed to a Christian band. In essence, though, they are both, and Jason makes no bones about how important his faith is to him. He has said on a number of occasions that to him, his music is to be interpreted by his fans in the way in which they need it at the time... be that as a collection of love songs or a representation of the relationship that one may have with God.
In 1995, at the tender age of 15, Jason taught himself guitar and formed the band Lifehouse, originally known as Blyss.
Hanging by a Moment appeared on their debut album, No Name face which was released in 2000, and the song was "the most played radio track of 2001." source It catapulted them into the limelight and it, therefore, seems fitting to start this #threetunetuesday off with that song.
This song has fantastic energy to it. I can turn up the volume and just dance and sing around my lounge. I still remember playing it all the time in my first couple of years in the UK. My husband was working away in China a lot on contract and we were in completely different time zones. We caught each other at odd hours between work, I would be tired and ready for bed late at night and he would be tired, having woken up early to chat with me before work. I often felt as though we were living our lives, together but separate, our relationship and love hanging by the moments. This year we have been together 26 years.
Hanging by a Moment
"I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held on to
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you"
Breathing
"I want nothing more
than to sit outside heaven's door
and listen to you breathing"
Take a breath and hold on tight
Spin around one more time
And gracefully fall back to the arms of Grace source
My 3rd song choice is not one that I had originally thought I would have chosen, but whilst surfing YouTube for good performances of my shortlist, I came across this incredibly gorgeous, partly a capella, acoustic version of Storm and I had to share it with you. It showcases Jason's voice beautifully in a song he wrote at the age of 16鉂o笍
To me, it's a song about faith; faith in God, faith that no matter how alone one may feel whilst struggling through the turmoil of life, we can prevail if we place our trust in faith and surrender to the unconditional love we feel in the watchful presence of God. Jason himself said of it that it is reflective of being...
lost in confusion, no matter how much is going on around you, you're still alone source
Storm
"And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
And I know everything will be alright"
All in
And I'm all in, nothing left to hide
I've fallen harder than a landslide
I spent a week away from you last night
... Even if I lose the game,
...I'm all in for life
All in - songwriters: Jason Wade & Jude Anthony Cole
