Steem was recently updated to 19.1! This includes a change to fix the bandwidth issues everyone was being hit with.

The formula for Homebrew was also updated to accompany this update! There is also a new build option --with-test-net which builds the node in test net mode for development.

Already have Steem installed?

Open your terminal and run

brew upgrade steem --with-test-net

This builds the node in test net mode. Remove --with-test-net to build the node for the official network. Wait for it install and you now have the latest version!

Don't have Steem installed?

I covered how to install Steem in my previous post, but for reference purposes, the instructions will be below to quickly get started.

Step 1: Install Homebrew

/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

Paste that at a Terminal prompt.

The script explains what it will do and then pauses before it does it.

If you already have Homebrew installed, skip this step

Step 2: Tap the repository

This step is optional but recommended. It just makes it easier to always have the latest version of Steem installed on your computer.

brew tap samrg472/steem

Step 3: Install

After tapping the repository, all you have to do is run the following command below:

brew install steem

Skipped step 2? No problem, installation is still a single step but you may not get automatic updates. Install it by running the following:

brew install samrg472/steem/steem

Enjoy!
