Forget about the title of the article for a moment and think about this: being a beginner at anything can suck especially if you are all alone. Imagine you were in a class filled with students who are ahead in the semester's curriculum and you are just starting out. Asking questions might be inevitable because you are left confused and in need of clarity. Some questions may seem obvious to others and it could make you shy for that moment to ask the question.
In midst of being the new person to the party, let's not forget there are some perks that comes with being a beginner. You need to appreciate these perks and one of them is your first time experience. Take it this way, a popular series at its peak had so many viewership and people talked a lot about it but for you, you chose not to watch it at the trending time, rather you chose to wait for the aftermath, when the hype is down. For example I did not watch Game of Thrones at its peak rather afterwards. I got to experience new things for the first time. Getting to know the characters without knowing what would happen next. Things like this is what I choose to see as first time experience.
I guess this is why some movie lovers would say they wish they could wipe their memory of a movie or TV show inorder to watch it again for the first time. I felt this way about Lost.
Next is to remember nobody was born an expert which is a unifying factor that reminds me certain things are achievable. I always choose to opt for the belief that stars are made and not born. Everybody started out at some point as a beginner, experiencing the beginner's perk for the first time. It did not take me much time to accept mastery as a product of long practice done over long hours, thanks to the game of chess. It is the best game you could use as an example in explaining what it means to attain mastery.
The perk of being a beginner at the game of chess was experiencing a beautiful game for the first time. Learning about the pieces and its movement intrigued me in such a way that has not be done previously with any other game. It began a thing of how much more can I learn or how fast can I get better at the game. This brings me to my next point which is building on curiosity. Another perk of being such a beginner is the presence of questions running through your mind. Trust me there are many and they can make your mind run wild. But what I have to start is give in to it.
Let go of any notion that I am shy to ask the question or scared. Rather ask the question and give into it. Give into the notion that the more questions you ask, the better your chances of learning. A stumbling block towards such perk is worrying about our others will perceive us. Either as naive or not informed. Well that should be more of a problem for them to solve and not your responsibility. Be more focused on finding answer to your question for better understanding and the unique experience comes when a beginner begins to ask questions that make the experts to think deeply before responding.
