The question most people raise is why does tribulations and suffering exist in the life of a believer. This question is not new. The question that has been on the mind of many people including me is why God permits pain despite the fact that we attempt to live a righteous life.
The reality is that, the suffering is a part of human life and the teaching of the Bible is that tribulations are purposive. They do not necessarily mean that God has forsaken us. At times, they are means through which God makes us stronger in faith and helps us to rely more on Him.
The Bible makes it clear that the people who adhere to God will be subjected to trials. John 16: 33 states: In the world shall ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world. This verse makes me think that all believers can go through suffering and Jesus Christ has already granted us a triumph.
Adversities help us be patient and strengthen our spiritual powers. Romans 5:3-4, also says, Tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope. As I think of this, I realize that difficult circumstances can only mold my personality and make me believe in my faith.
The other purpose of people going through tribulation is to ensure they become closer to God. When everything in life is smooth, there are so many individuals who are ready to forget about praying or seeking guidance of God.
However, in the context of suffering, human beings tend to petition Him. Psalm 34: 19 states, that many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord bringeth him out of them all. The verse is reassuring since it demonstrates that God does not overlook our misery.
He is giving promises of deliverance though it may not happen instantly. Another way through which tribulation may enable believers to be an example to others is through it. When individuals observe that someone is faithful even when they are in the state of suffering, they will have an urge to trust God as well.
I have also realized that difficulties are at times turned into a witness in which others are empowered in their walk of faith.
Conclusively, tribulation occurs to people due to numerous reasons such as growing spiritually, enabling faith to be tested, and being drawn nearer to God.
In spite of the fact that suffering is painful, the Bible explains that it is used by God to make good and that he would never abandon his people. This provides the believers with hope and power to keep believing Him.
God bless his word
