Tithing is one of the issues that can be questioned by Christians. It is believed that tithing was applicable only in the Old Testament, whereas others believe that it was a commandment and ought to be practiced even today.
In my knowledge, tithing is a great way of showing God the blessings that He has given us. In Malachi 3:10, it is written in the Bible, which states, bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, lest I open unto thee the windows of heaven and pour about thee such blessing, as that there may not be room enough to receive it. This implies that God rewards those who are givers.
In my opinion, the giving of tithes is not simply a law, but rather my matter of choice to express my gratefulness to God. It serves as a reminder that it is all as a result of Him. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, it is stated that, each man should give as he pleases in his heart and not grudgingly, but rather not of necessity; God loves a glad giver.
In this verse it is taught that a person must willingly give, rather than as a form of fear or compulsion.
Tithing is also a means, in my case, to aid the work of the church and other needy people. The contributions of the Christians in form of tithes helps to disseminate the word of God, facilitate ministers and take care of the less privileged.
I have witnessed the hand in hand principle of faith and giving. Through giving, we are assured that God takes care of our needs, and we become spiritual.
To sum up, I believe that Christians should give tithes not because they are compelled to give, but because it is their faith, they are grateful and love God.
One of the ways is tithing in order to honor Him, to be a blessing to others, and to get His promises. Just as Proverbs 3: 9-10 teaches that, Honor the lord with your possessions, and firstfruits of all thy increase; and thy barns shall be full of plenty, thy vats with new wine.
