The issue of the second baptism is a question that several pious Christians pose. Personally, I have been curious about it. Is it biblical? Does the Bible support it? To respond to this, we would have to closely examine the Scriptures and see what the purpose of baptism is.

The baptism is a decree of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Matthew 28:19 he said, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in my name, and in the name of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Baptism is a ceremony of professing faith. There is a symbolic aspect of it: death to sin and new life. The verse in Romans 6:4 explains, that we are buried with him by baptism into death: that as God raised up Christ out of the dead: so also should we walk in the newness of life.

An example is presented in the Bible where there were believers who were baptized again. In Acts 19: 3-5, Paul encountered Christians in the book of the Acts, who had only been baptized by John. They were re baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus when they knew the complete gospel about Him. This teaches me that even though the initial baptism was performed without any understanding or without any true faith in Christ, there may be need to be baptized correctly.

But Ephesians 4:5 indicates that, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism. This makes us remember that we do not repeat common baptism in order to become true Christians. In case an individual was baptized with complete faith and knowledge, there is no explicit decree in the Scripture to repeat it.

Conclusively, it does not require to be baptized twice in the Bible. However, in the case that the first baptism has not been founded on actual faith or adequate comprehension, one may be biblically baptized again. The important thing is what is really repented, the true faith and submission to the word of God. In my opinion, it is the duty of the hearts to be correct in front of Him.

God bless his word
Amen
