You will be surprised that a lot of people that have gone broke did not have problem generating money, rather they had spending problem. One of the things that you should understand in life is that financial challenges will not give you prior notice before their arrival, so you need to make provisions for them. It may be the money that you saved yesterday that will save you today. It is a height of financial impropriety to consume everything that comes to you without having some reservations for tomorrow use. It is from your savings that you do not only build for financial emergency, but also for other financial demands.

Before we look at the ways to make savings easier, let us quickly talk about the benefits of saving, because it will be what will motivate the art of saving. The first one is to build emergency funds. If something happens that needs quick financial involvement, do you have something to fall back on or do you just start at that moment to solicite for support? At that point, a lot of people may not even be readily or willing to help as at when due, so you will need something to get going with. You will be surprised that the people you would have run to for help also needs bigger helps than you, so you have to prepare to take as much responsibilities as you can, and this can be from your savings.
The next benefit of savings is that it make money available for investments and other demands you have for finances. It is true that you may have an idea of what to inevest in, but the funds may be what is still drawing you back. However, if you have saved up some money, you can use it to get started with. When you have started with that, more financial supports will then come later. The first point of call you should have when investing is from your own savings. Of course, this will show how serious you are for the business you want to invest in, and this will also prompt others to invest in it too. But if you are 100% depending on external funds, it may stall your progress. This is why I believe that "one of the greatest helps that anyone can get is their own personal help that they give to themself."

Savings also help you plan for retirement. It is worthy to note that, no matter how hard you can work and no matter what you do, age will still happen to you, and by that time, you may not be active again to work. If you have not made any plans for retirement, it may not be as glorious as it should. Nothing is as devastating as becoming a liability in life because of lack of plans or lack of savings. While you are actively working, you should also try to set some money aside for retirement. In this part of the world, it is true that they pay gratuity and pension after years of working (for corporate and civil workers) but it may not come immediately after retirement. So you need something to sustain you first - so save.
Now that we have seen the benefits of saving, let us talk about ways to enhance savings. The first point is budgeting. Of course, there is no way you can effectly save if you do not have a budget to guide your spendings. It is by having a budget that you will plan how much to spend and how much to save. Your budget should also include your financial goals; short-term and long-term alike. That is, what to spend on now and what to spend on later. More so, you should learn to prioritise your financial needs while budgeting and separate them from your wants. If you cannot make budget from the little you have, it may be almost impossible to make it when you have much. So budgeting should be what you start from where you are.
After you have budgeted and planned, the next step is to minimise unnecessary expenditure. There are times where you want to buy something and you know that it is not a necessity, then you do not have to go beyond your limit to buy it. Also, if what you want to spend on has a cheaper substitute that will not break your pocket, it will be worthwhile to go for it if you cannot afford the expensive one. For example, if you cannot afford a designer cloth or if it will prevent you from saving, then you can go for the generic one. To save effectively, you have to learn to cut unnecessary expenses.
