It is true that a lot of people dream of achieving something very massive. They have dreams, aspirations, ideas, and what they want to become. However, some of them become discouraged because they only focus on the size of their dreams, without considering the small steps that will lead them there. What you have to understand is that every major thing you want to achieve will begin with a small step. The big goals and dreams you want to achieve will begin with a step. No matter how small the steps may look like, they will contribute to the journey towards the goal. This is the reason why every small step counts.

No matter the kind of success you want to have, you cannot achieve it overnight. Which means that the goal you have will result from the steps you have taken over time. Imagine someone who wants to become a pilot. He will not just jump into the plane and start flying it. If he does, he will not even know how to get it on the air, talk more of getting to his destination. But what he will do is to register in an aviation school, and learn under a flight instructor. Little by little, he will acquire the relevant flying skills which will make him to become a pilot. In the same way in other aspects of life, mastery cannot he gained in a day, but over time.
One of the things that I have realised about the small continuous steps is that they build momentum. More often than not, starting is usually the hardest part of the journey. Just like when you want to push a truck, the first push is usually the hardest because you would have to overcome friction, inertia, and other forces. But along the line, it becomes easier. In life, a lot of people delay to take actions because they try to convince themselves that they need to make huge progress immediately. However, taking one step over another step will build the momentum that you need. The moment you begin, you will realise how easy other steps will become. When you complete a task, it will give you the motivation to take the next step.
The small steps you take also lead to continuous improvement. Improvement does not happen automatically at once. Rather it will happen gradually as you make adjustments and as you learn from your experiences. For example; practising a skill daily will ultimately make you to gain mastery in it. Reading a few pages everyday will increase your knowledge over time. Saving a small amount of money regularly will lead to financial independence. These actions may not look significant at first, but when they are done repeatedly, over time, they will produce incredible results. You build continuous improvement on small daily efforts.

The small continuous steps also have a way of reducing fear. The moment you take a step towards what you are scared of the most, the more your fear will reduce. When you have a big task to complete, or a big dream to fulfill, there is a natural tendency that you may become fearful about it. But when you break it down into little bits, then start taking steps towards it, you will be surprised that each step will be worthwhile.
The small continuous steps you take also help you to build positive habits. Success has more tendency of happening as a result of good habits, than as a result of occasional big efforts. Your small daily action will gradually become your routine, and this will become your character. For example; doing exercises for 30 minutes daily, arriving early to work, paying attention to details in a task, practising gratitude, etc, all these will build a positive habit and will transform your lifestyle. At the end of the day, you will realise that it is not one occasional burst of effort that will make you who you are, but the things you do daily. So always remember that each step matters as long as it is done rightly towards your goals and dreams.
