The customer is the chief
Have you heard of the above quote? Obviously, the only reason that businesses thrive is because of their patronage from customers. Take away customers and the lifeline of a business will be taken away and that business will fall. If you see customers as the chief, then you will do what it takes for you get and retain them. The only reason they will be retained is when they are satisfied with your products and services, but you will not know if they are satisfied until you get a feedback from them.

Many businesses have been saved by honest feedbacks from customers. If you always lose customers at first patronage, then there is something wrong with either your product or your service. You need to enquire from them in what ways you can get better or improved so as to meet their expectations. Do not assume that your service is perfect, there will always be where to improve it.
I remember a story that was told of a particular young lady that sells Okpa (Bambara nut cake) in the place I grew up. She started with the normal way of cooking the Okpa, though she was having some sales but not the way she had hoped for it.
What she did was to collect random opinions from her customers while tipping them with extra Okpa as incentives. From their honest opinions, she drafted out what they would really want in Okpa. That was how she started including vegetables and egg inside her Okpa and it made it very unique. Her sale orders went up so much that she could not even meet up with demand.
You see, she would have been stuck with the traditional way of cooking Okpa while struggling to make sales because she was competing with other people doing it the same way. When she improved on her own, she became ahead of every other person doing the business and she took over the market in the neighbourhood.
To succeed in business and to be clear of all your competitors, you have to keep upgrading your products and services. Give to your customers, not only what they want but what they cannot easily get from other business. In that way, their choices will be limited to only your own business.
