I wonder if you have ever come across the work of Derek Jensen? I read a book of his called The Myth of Human Supremacy that completely opened my eyes. He makes a valid point that for the vast majority of time that humans have existed on this planet they have done so in harmony with nature. When the Europeans came and "conquered" America the indigenous inhabitants thought they brought with them some kind of mental sickness.
