ジブリアニメ｢もののけ姫｣の舞台となったグランピアンズ国立公園～ Grampians National Park appeared ...

１月の夏休みに家族旅行をしました。旅行先は、メルボルンから車で約３時間、北西に260kmのところにある「グランピアンズ国立公園」です。
この国立公園は、なんと東京都の面積とほぼ同じ約16万7000ヘクタールもの広さを持ち、オーストラリアのビクトリア州 (州都メルボルン)最大の国立公園です。

We went on a family trip to Grampians National Park where is about 260km west of Melbourne.
It's approx 167ha in size, almost same size of Tokyo metropolitan area.
The park and surrounding ares is a traditional and sacred lands of Aboriginal people.
There are Wild kangaroos , wombats, owls, of course Australian iconic koalas live in the park.

ここはオーストラリアの原住民アボリジニの聖地であり、オーストラリア固有の動植物が生息する山岳地帯で、野生のコアラ、カンガルー、フクロウ、ウォンバットなどが生息しています。

到着した日は41℃という猛暑でしたが、この国立公園最大の滝「マッケンジー滝」の滝つぼまで歩きました。

スタート地点から滝つぼまでの高低差は約36ｍあります。260もある階段を徒歩で下っていきます。(階段がとても急で幅も狭いので、写真を撮り損ねました。)

It was 41 degrees on our arrival day, extremely hot and dry.
We hiked down to see the specutacular Mackenzie Falls.
We started to walk down 260 steps to get to the base of the falls. We had to walk down the stairs very carefully as they were very steep.
The difference in height between the start point and the destination is 36m.

崖の上から真下を覗いて見ました。We looked into the bottom of the cliff.

どんどん階段を降りていきます。We kept walking down the stairs.

20分ほどで、滝つぼに着きました。あまりにも暑いせいか、滝行のように滝に打たれている男性がいました。滝の流れを見ていると、暑さも吹っ飛びます。

It took us 20 minutes to get to the bottom. It was boiling hot and sun was so intense.
A young guy was standing under the waterfall to cool down.

実はグランピアンズ国立公園には、ジブリ映画「もののけ姫」のアシタカと山犬のシーンのモデルになったと言われる岩があるのです。翌日はその岩を見に行きました。

この岩の名前｢Jaws of death｣は直訳すると｢死地｣です。｢死地｣とは｢危険な場所｣｢窮地｣などの意味があります。
この岩は以前は立ち入ることができましたが、危険なため現在は立ち入り禁止となっています。遠くから写真だけ撮りました。

On the next day, we went for a hike to a remarkable rock ''the Jaws of Death'', as featured in the famous Japanese animation ''Princess Mononoke''.
Standing on the giant rock was allowed. Now it's fenced off and not directly accssible, we could get a majestic view of it though.
