皆さん、こんにちは。週末に野生のカンガルーを見に行きました。
オーストラリアのどこの動物園にもカンガルーやコアラがいますが、実は野生のカンガルーやコアラが見られる場所もたくさんあるのです。メルボルンのような都会でも、カンガルーを見られる場所がいくつかあります。
余談ですが、メルボルンに引っ越してきたばかりの頃、夕方、公園のそばの歩道沿いをウォーキングしていたら、３０頭以上のカンガルーに遭遇しビックリしたことがあります。さすがオーストラリア！だと思いました。
話を戻して、夕方６時前にカンガルーに遭遇できる原っぱに着きました。こちらは今、サマータイム中なので午後６時といっても明るく日差しが強いです。
Kangaroos can be seen and sometimes patted and fed in zoos and wild life parks in Australia. But there is nothing better than seeing Kangaroos in the wild.
There are a number of places in and very close to Melbourne where we can see wild kangaroos.
Kangaroos are more likely to be found in early morning or late evening, but in some areas are easily spotted throughout the day.
自宅からここまで車で２５分もかかりません。この原っぱのすぐ隣にはラグビー場があります。そして、その向こうは閑静な住宅地で、近くにはショッピングセンターもあります。ここは周囲に何もない田舎ではありません。
We arrived at a reserve in suburban Melbourne. It took less than 25 minutes drive off our place. Here's not in a rural place. There is a quiet residential area closeby, best for raising children.
原っぱに着きました。何も見えません。
Here we are in a reserve. Nothing can be seen so far.
どんどん歩いていきます。んん？何か見える！！
We keep walking. Look!! We can see something!
おぉ！カンガルーの群れだ！
Wow! A mob of kangaroos!!
ぴょんぴょん跳ねてる！
Bouncing and hopping!!
じゃれている？ケンカしてる？
Are they cuddling or fighting?
じっとこちらを見つめている⋯。
It stares at us.
ボス・カンガルーだ！やはり威厳があります。
He's a leader! He looks degnified, doesn't he?
野生のカンガルーはとても警戒心が強いので遠くから眺めるだけです。また意外と凶暴です。決して野生のカンガルーに餌をあげようとしたり、撫でようとしてはいけません。
Kangaroos are the largest living marsupials in the world. We should always keep a safe distance and never attempt to feed and pat wild ones.
