The Sumatran tiger is on the edge of extinction due to uncontrolled loss of habitat, reduced number of prey species, and poaching. The 2008 report released by TRAFFIC - the WWF cooperation program and the World Conservation Institute, IUCN, for monitoring wildlife trade - finds a flourishing illegal market and an open domestic market in Sumatra that trades tiger body parts.
