Today's share was triggered by an Amimals song I heard last week Wednesday while driving back from Winona. What a song, so why not share a few? Oh yeah, here we go...
A big favorite of mine. If I recall my memory, my parents told me this was an early "hidden" protest song of the Vietnam conflict. I have no idea if that's true, but I think of all of those kids who were over there fighting wanting to get out of that place. This song would definitely have been an anthem at the time.
The one thing I appreciate about the band is the lead singer's vocals. Eric Burdon was a legend for my brother and me when we were kids...we always loved his voice and the swagger of the singer. Sure, Mick and Keith had some swagger, but there was inherent, deeper cool to Burdon. At least we thought so.
Which leads to this one...what a cover of a Sam Cooke classic. I love Sam Cooke (a lot), but Burdon does quite some justice on this one. What I really like is that they are (apparently) doing a Beach Boys-esque promo, but with four English lads hammering home a Sam Cooke gem on a Pacific Ocean beach. This one will always be one of my favorites from the band...
