For this week's #threetunetuesday, as inspired by @ablaze, I dug back deep into the memory banks. This time, I went back to the days of MP3 players and burned CDs...back to the days when I think I even once had an Ipod. I even searched my Google photo library to the oldest photo saved on the cloud...as luck would have it, it's whatever that is above. I took that in 2009, if you must know...
Ok back to the music. This week I thought of three tracks I used to love to listen to on my MP3 player/phone/Ipod . All of the tracks tingle, a bit, with shoegaze. So let's get into it.
The Walkmen : They're Winning
Noise, noise, noise...crescendos, crescendos, crescendos...all good stuff when the Walkmen used to be good. Maybe they are still good, but I haven't heard much about them in the past few years. This one was a great one to listen to on high volume, as the guitars hark back to that wall of sound sound I love so much. The lyrics probably aren't too bad either!
Verve : Already There
I know everyone knows the Verve and Bittersweet Sympathy, but their album A Storm in Heaven, did it for me. This song is one of those dreamy, 1960's inspired pieces of art where there is a wonderful freakout portion at 2:20. A band that I feels gets missed from time to time. If I recall correctly, the lead singer even has a beef with J. Spacemen...so there's that too.
These New Puritans : White Chords
Another MP3 favorite for me. This song starts slow, but the magic kicks in with the chorus at 1:05. Shoegazer, shoegazer, shoegazer, forever...have I mentioned how much I like that genre before? It always seems to catch you in some random song when least expected. The Puritans, and this album is actually quite interesting to listen to. If this song works for you, the others on the album might too!
That's it for this week's #ttt - let me know what you think, below!
