For this post, I went way back to the year 1965. That's almost 60 years ago...crazy enough. When I grew up in the 1980's, there was an obsession with the 1960's. TV shows like Tour of Duty and China Beach focused on the Vietnam Conflict. Dramas like the Wonder Years focused on the nuclear family, and the angst growing up a teen boy went through. And in all of these shows, there was always that magnificent music. Beautiful music that was in direct contrast to all the violence in the world at that time. What a time, indeed...

So for this week's #threetunetuesday, as inspired by @ablaze, I went back to that year 1965. Why? Well for one, I couldn't get a new Beach House song of out of my head on Sunday hike...so I had to force some Beach Boys into my brain. One song after another, I thought, "my goodness, 1965, what a year! So without further adieu, here we go (and spoiler alert: no Lennon and McCartney!)

This is a song I used to love singing to on FM radio when cleaning out rental cars in college, thanks in part to the local oldies station. I really didn't think much of it until it appeared in The Queen's Gambit. Part of me really enjoys being caught off guard when a song like this pops up on something like Netflix. Yet part of me is also sad that that hidden treasure is now discovered and pushed out to the masses. Ugh...Netflix...you kill me.

The Beau Brummels : Just A Little

The Beau Brummels...one of my favorite West Coast bands of all time. Long before the Byrds and that whole Laurel Canyon thing that happened, the Brummels were pulling off some top ten hits with a unique sound. I don't even know if the Beau Brummels are known at this point, but this is a great song (at least I think so)

And what was that song that burned that Beach House song of out my head? Well, it had to be #Barbara Ann#, but the Wilson brothers and company. Another song I always loved hearing on the radio when dealing with Avis cars filled with crap and garbage. You probably have heard this one before (hopefully not, and you dig it). The video is pretty sweet too...thank you to whoever put that one together. I surfed one time, and I think of it from time to time...and when i watched this video, I feel the want to return to the ocean and feels the waves below me. Good memories!
