Well, I guess I’m back. I’m not going to lie…since my last post things got rocky, and I most certainly didn’t adhere to Stoicism. Here was August, in a nutshell…

  • A recruiter calls me out of nowhere on a Monday regarding a job opportunity

  • I don’t put much into it, but agree to chat with the company’s president on Wednesday

  • I chat with the President of the company and it goes extremely well…I take a day of vacation and plan to interview in person that Friday

  • I have a five hour interview that Friday and again, I’m intrigued…

  • That following Monday, my boss of previous job hints that if I am going to leave his company, I should tell him sooner rather than later…ok something is amiss and somehow this clown learned of the interview

  • The following Tuesday the boss of my previous job blows up on me for a clerical error and I have to walk out on him as he is ranting, condescending, angry, and verbally abusive

  • That Thursday the job offer comes through, and I’m going to take it if the salary is where I need it to be

  • The next day Friday, I head to the Michigan Upper Peninsula for a 10 day vacation break

  • The next Monday, the job offer comes through email and I accept

  • Tuesday, I have to email the owner of the old job that I”m putting my two week notice in

I hear he goes off the rails that same day, then later starts bragging about how much money he is going to save by me leaving his company and my family getting off of his insurance...so much respect for his staff, honestly.

I stress about having to deal with him when I return for the next week…and then the next Tuesday I’m back and the insults and passive aggressive digs ramp up from him.

Finally, I make it to the end of the work notice, and then I am forced to buy my own beer for my going away party for all those who will be there, and then it’s done…lol. What a stretch!

Four days later I’m in a new role…what a whirlwind. Needless to say, I didn’t stay Stoic at all over the timeline above and let stress and anxiety get the best of me. Now that I’m three weeks into the new job, my body and mind are wanting a return to philosophy. All of that being said I return to these three tenants of keeping one’s mind sane!

  • Manage your perceptions
  • Conduct your actions properly
  • Readily accept what’s outside of your control

Apparently, that’s it…but as we all know, much harder to accomplish in reality!

So this week, I’ve been writing these three things down every morning in a journal. I call it a “gentle reminder” to put this in my head before the day begins. I've started this week and it hasn't sunk in, but again...baby steps. So, hopefully, I'm back on the positive, Stoic train.

Thanks for checking out my share! Let me know if any of that rant made any sense!
