We’ve just returned from a two-day trip aimed at summiting a 2,720-meter peak. I feel like I’ve come out of this experience stronger and more energized than before.

alt

The morning before, my husband Kambiz and I woke up at 5:30 a.m. We had packed our backpacks the night before. We fed the dogs and cats, and then we hit the road.

alt

We parked our car in the village of Arfa Deh and set off toward the summit around 11 a.m. The weather was cool and cloudy, which made the ascent especially pleasant.

alt

Many people were coming down from the summit and wished us a good climb. However, only a few were heading up, mostly because the weather wasn’t favorable that day. We knew it was going to rain, but we thought we’d rise above the clouds and reach the sunlight.

alt

Unfortunately, we were wrong — and tomorrow, I’ll tell you how we made it to the summit and what a struggle it was 😅

alt

Everything was fine before lunch. We were hiking up cheerfully, enjoying the trail and the journey.

alt

But everything changed when we reached the plateau. The cold wind and rain hit us hard and took us by surprise — and in that state, we were supposed to have lunch. I was extremely anxious. My body was shaking, and I felt like screaming non-stop.

alt

We finally reached the summit, completely soaked, and luckily, there was a shelter up there waiting for us.
