Watching a Beautiful Sunset (Eng/Esp)

Walking along the Cumana Coastal Promenade is a very relaxing activity, which is why I return whenever I have the chance—especially in the evening to enjoy the scenery. I enjoy watching the sea; it’s a way to channel and release the negative emotions that build up in everyday life. We mustn’t forget that the world is diverse and that each person reacts differently to the situations they face.

Every time I look at the sea, its grandeur and vastness never cease to amaze me. For the community of Caigüire, the beach is the main source of food; a wide variety of fish is consumed here. At this hour, a little before 6 p.m., I noticed that three boats were out in the middle of the gulf, preparing to go fishing.

I also came across a man who was about to go diving, dressed in a black wetsuit and with all the necessary equipment by his side to explore the ocean floor. All of this was happening while, on the other side, some people were walking or jogging as part of their routines to stay in good health.

When the time came, I stopped to take in the dramatic change in the sky; when I started my walk, I was accompanied by a cloudy sky with seagulls fluttering about. Then, the sky turned blue with a few white clouds, and finally, the sun began to set—the sunset was drawing to a close, and night was approaching.

This is when the scenery is at its most beautiful; for a few moments, you can see colors and a faint sun whose presence casts magnificent shadows all around. Boats, buildings, statues, trees, vehicles, people—everything is transformed into shadows as the sun bids us farewell until tomorrow.

Recorrer la Cinta Costera de Cumaná es una actividad muy relajante, por eso cada vez que tengo la posibilidad regreso, sobre todo en horario vespertino para disfrutar del paisaje. Me agrada observar el mar, es una forma de canalizar y drenar las emociones negativas que se acumulan en la cotidianidad. No podemos olvidar que el mundo es diverso y cada persona reacciona diferente ante las situaciones que debe enfrentar.

Cada vez que observo el mar, su grandeza y magnitud no dejan de sorprenderme. Para la comunidad de Caigüire, la playa constituye la principal fuente de alimento, acá se consume gran variedad de pescados. A esta hora, un poco antes de las 6 de la tarde, aprecié que tres botes estaban en medio del golfo preparándose para labores de pesca.

También me topé con un hombre que iba a empezar a bucear, vestido con un traje de neopreno negro y a su lado los instrumentos necesarios para explorar el fondo del mar. Todo esto acontecía mientras del otro lado, algunas personas caminaban o trotaban como parte de sus rutinas para mantenerse en buen estado de salud.

Llegado el momento, me detuve a contemplar el cambio drástico del firmamento, cuando empecé la caminata me acompañó un cielo nublado con gaviotas revoloteando. Luego, el cielo se tornó azul con algunas nubes blancas y, finalmente, el sol empezó a descender, agonizaba el atardecer y estaba próxima la noche.

Es ahora cuando las imágenes son las más hermosas, por instantes se aprecian colores y un sol tenue cuya presencia origina magníficas sombras alrededor. Los botes, edificios, estatuas, árboles, vehículos, personas, todo queda transmutado en sombras mientras el sol se despide de nosotros hasta mañana.
