Exploring the Quetepe Community (Eng/Esp)

Today I’m taking you on a new tour of the Quetepe community and showing you some interesting things I found, including a very rare fish on the shore—which was dead, of course—a batfish, also known as a swallowfish. The most striking feature is its fan-shaped fins, which have a bluish-black hue. No one eats this batfish; it most likely washed up on a chinchorro and was left there.

I also found some seashells gathered in a pile; perhaps a child had been playing with them and was trying to make some kind of shape in the sand. That’s what I assume, since I find it hard to imagine an adult collecting seashells and then sorting them by size and color under that blazing sun.

Then I explored the community along the side of the road; there are many modern and luxurious homes. The most pleasant part of the tour was the many gardens with flowers of different shapes and sizes. In the past, when people talked about Quetepe, they were referring to a large plot of land that served as a parking lot and a venue for noisy parties.

This community has also grown considerably; its expansion is evident in the number of homes and people who have gradually become residents here, as they’ve settled permanently in homes that were initially built for enjoying a good time outside the city.

As I walked along the road, I could see the hill—the rock formation that loomed imposingly along the route. I took the left side to explore, while on the right you could see domestic animals and humble homes; there were even hammocks in the yards—a tradition that still endures.

This community has all the necessary services, including internet, and is relatively close to Cumaná, so the trip there is quick. During the vacation season, there was a water park on the beach for tourists to enjoy, but the idea didn’t work out, so the inflatable rides and other attractions were moved to the Araya Peninsula in hopes of better luck.

Hoy les muestro un nuevo recorrido por la comunidad de Quetepe y algunas curiosidades que encontré, entre ellas un pez muy raro en la orilla, el cual estaba muerto, por supuesto, era un pez murciélago, también conocido como pez golondrina. Lo más llamativo son sus aletas que tienen forma de abanico con un tono negro azulado. Este pez murciélago no se lo come nadie, lo más probable es que vino en un chinchorro y lo dejaron allí.

También encontré algunas conchas marinas reunidas en grupo, posiblemente un niño estaba jugando con ellas y estaba tratando de hacer alguna figura en la arena. Eso supongo ya que me cuesta imaginar a un adulto reuniendo conchas marinas para luego organizarlas por tamaño y colores en medio de aquel sol incandescente.

Luego exploré la comunidad del lado de la carretera, hay muchas casas modernas y lujosas. Lo más agradable del recorrido eran los múltiples jardines con flores de diferentes formas y tamaños. Anteriormente hablar de Quetepe era referirse a un gran terreno que funcionaba como estacionamiento y espacio para realizar ruidosas fiestas.

Esta comunidad también ha crecido bastante, su expansión se nota en la cantidad de viviendas y personas que progresivamente se han transformado en habitantes de este lugar, pues se instalaron de manera permanente en viviendas que inicialmente se construyeron para pasar un buen rato fuera de la ciudad.

Mientras caminaba por la carretera podría observar el cerro, la formación rocosa que se presentaba imponente en el recorrido. Tomé el lado izquierdo para explorar, en tanto en el derecho se podían observar animales domésticos y casas humildes, incluso en los patios se observaban hamacas, una tradición que aún perdura.

Esta comunidad cuenta con todos los servicios, incluyendo internet, queda relativamente cerca de Cumaná, por lo que el traslado es rápido. En la playa, en época vacacional, había un parque acuático para el disfrute de los turistas, pero esta idea no funcionó, así que el inflable y demás atracciones fueron trasladadas hasta la península de Araya, en busca de mejor suerte.
