A recent poem of mine . . .

'Perfection'

Perfection, the ideal we seek,
Controlling how we think, act, and speak.
Our appearance, opinions, and outlook all the same,
As if our lives have become a mirror game.
Changing who you are, killing you inside,
For what, meaningless pride?
As society and people’s opinions change,
You will once again need to rearrange
The attributes you set out to correct
As all of a sudden, they are no longer perfect.
There is much more to this, that you cannot see,
The unpolished, raw you, is true beauty.
Love who you are,
Every freckle, imperfection, and scar.
Once in a lifetime, originality,
That is what we should strive to be.
