Royal Hotel: Willowmore!
My wife and I were still on our merry way down to the coast, taking a longer route, and stopping at places we normally just shoot past.
A lot of small towns in South Africa has an old Royal Hotel. I don't know where this comes from, but I decided that I would like to visit some of these old Hotels over time.
This particular Hotel is more than 100 years old, but has been renovated some time back, and is in reasonable condition. This is what the Hotel entrance looks like from the street.
It has a nice little veranda at the front, where one can enjoy food from the restaurant.
The corridors, is right out an horror movie, long and dark!! Spooky!!
There is nothing modern about this hotel. There are only a few on suite rooms the rest is dorm like rooms with shared bathrooms, luckily I booked an on suite room before time, as this Hotel was fully booked, when we arrived!!
We tested our bed before we ventured to go for a quick drink. (Note no TV to be seen anywhere in the room!!)
We went to the BAR, for a quick BEER as one need to visit the BAR when at a Royal Hotel as there was a popular Afrikaans song from 1983 about the Royal Hotel's Bar, where everybody knew each other!! I plan to visit more Royal Hotels in the future to see what they are like.
Song of Royal Hotel from youtube:
Later the evening we went to the restaurant for some milkshakes and something to eat. We had Mutton stew and Samp for dinner. Willowmore is situated in the Karoo, which is sheep country, thus we had the mutton stew.
We enjoyed our stay at this old hotel, we had a good nights rest and was ready for the next and last leg of our trip to the coast!!
I hope you liked the post as much as I liked writing it.
I hope you have a wonderful day!!
