New Export Opportunity.
As some of you might remember from previous posts, I do work for the South African Railways.
Some years ago we transported big volumes of traffic and we had the infrastructure to run these volumes.
Through the years the traffic volumes decreased and a lot of the infrastructure was neglected and deteriorated to a bad state of repair.
The siding in the photos are one of those assets that just went down the drain. It now looks like a jungle!! A nice green jungle at that!!
The sign still says " Stop and wait for the hand signal", but as can be seen there was no train in the last few years.
Luckily a new client now wants to use this same siding to load chrome. They are currently receiving chrome from the mines and repack them into containers for export, but now they want to load bulk into 50 wagon trains for export.
Quite a bit of rehabilitation will be needed to get this siding operational again, but at least here is a good opportunity to get some of the old assets working again.
Above is a lone man, who started to clear some of the vegetation from the lines.
Closer to the main line the condition is better, as some of the lines are still in use.
The area below will be used for the stockpile, and you can see a front end loader in the background, busy working on the current stockpile, which is still being used for the loading into containers.
