Karoo farm:
During the Easter Holiday, which was at the beginning of April, my wife and I went on vacation to the Western Cape coast. We decide to stop over at her cousin and aunt, who owns a farm at Colesberg, which is in the Karoo region. The Karoo is a semi desert.
Although it is a semi desert, there is quite a bit of under ground water on this particular farm. The water is sourced from various boreholes. The photo above shows the corn fields, which is irrigated, by means of a pivot point irrigation system. As you can see the corn is growing very well in these conditions.

The photo above and the video below, shows a Black Wildebeest. Interestingly enough the Wildebeest, is used to protect the sheep, from thieves and according to my wife's cousin, it is quite effective. You can also see what the typical Karoo landscape looks like.
Traditionally, this is sheep farming country, and they still have quite a number of sheep on the farm. This is Merino sheep, that is used for wool production.
Like normal farms, they also have cattle on the farm, with this orphaned calf, which are drinking bottle on the photo.
The old farmhouse is still in use and was built in 1820.
We had a great time visiting on the farm and rested well for two days, before we continued with our journey to the see.
