I love my old classic bikes and cars, when I saw a planned trip, on Facebook, by the BMW club of Johannesburg, I decided to join the ride, from Pretoria where I stay. The advert stated that the ride was for classic and new classic bikes.
I don't normally ride with these guys, and was a lonely rider from Pretoria. We got together at a Petrol Station, slowly the bikes started to trickle in.
Most of the bikes were newer bikes and only a few were classic. My bike is a 1958 BMW R60 and was by far the oldest bike present. Most of the riders were rather classic themselves!! LOL!! The black bike more or less in the centre of the photo is mine.
In the back of the photo it is my bike and I.
The group grew to a nice size.
We were planning to end a transport museum, but on our way we first stopped at a business where they restore and sell classic bike, in the photo below is a number of bikes still to be restored.
As it goes, with classic bike rides, there are bound to be breakdowns enroute, and this ride were no exception, one of the older bikes a BMW GS80, came to a spluttering halt. The issue was later traced to a faulty ignition switch.
Soon we were on our way again and arrived at our final destination, below you can see my bike in the distance, under the tree.
As you can see the bike with the ignition problem also made it to our final stop, although they did trailer it home.
As I said, we made the trip to a transport museum, and below you can see on big machine on the outside. I will follow up with a post on the museum itself on a later stage - hopefully soon.
We had a great trip, socialising a lot, talking about the old bikes and just enjoying ourselves.
I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day.
