As a storyteller you can "carefully craft" (I think it's now a buzzphrase which makes me automatically hate it, I think I'm going to end up hating most of the English language the way I'm going XD) every sentence of every paragraph, every line of dialogue, every shot, every character's expression just so, and people may still miss your subtle (and sometimes BLATANTLY OBVIOUS as far as I'm concerned in the case of my roleplayers XD) cues/clues/foreshadowing even if they are actively paying attention.

I don't really have target audiences/demographics but people who want something easy and passive that spells out everything for them aren't it, I'm hilariously terrible at straightforward simple stories with unabiguous neat resolutions

I keep saying I should try LoTR, I am pretty sure we have all of the books here (J's midlife crisis has been embarking on trying to collect/preserve as much literature/"classics" as he can/is interested in), unfortunately I'm "mentally scarred" as the first time I encountered J.R.R Tolkien was seeing The Scimarillon on a friend's bookshelf, remembering that author was supposed to be a good one and grabbing that book.

and I'm prioritising re/reading the Discworld series first >_> and after that is Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell which is a whale bludgeoner
