Could you not hypothetically do both?

Ahh the egg tray reminds me of when my kids were little and we sprouted a bunch of seeds in some egg trays in their cubby fort where we thought it would be sheltered from the wind and safe from the chickens that had the run of the entire yard at the time. The seedlings came up and we were making plans for where to transplant them to and then the wind proved us wrong and the chickens had gotten most of them before we found out.

Yours look much safer where they are XD
