I think doing the wireframes with bulkier shapes is probably better when you have gigantic characters like this XD

And you can be a comic artist without having worked for a well known label or emulating any given style so there ;D

Your choice of brushes for shading and using the lines as part of it seems to have worked really well, the end result looks pretty dynamic :)
