Never ending with children even when they're adults XD
From tiny my kids were always told to "ask the human first" so it just became automatic. Alongside that was learning various other animal languages so if there was no accompanying human one could take a guess about whether the unaccompanied animal was safe to approach/attempt to catch or not.
On the one hand I was slightly surprised that this wasn't common knowledge but then again where I grew up all the dogs were either friendly or ran away from you, there was nothing in between, so guess it's always going to depend on what you're useed to x_x
