If you are copying text from somewhere use the > symbol in front of it like

which will produce

this example here

and then say where the text comes from (link if it's somewhere online, author and title if it's not).

If you're using some front ends like peakd or ecency there should be buttons for it.

For references if you used something online, just putting a link to it is fine.
