I don't know when all this became so boring and mediocre

That's just what tends to happen when things become mainstream and the biggest faces get more interested in protecting their income than having fun and trying out new things. Is skating there yet? I only really watch skatehive videos if I'm watching skating and am otherwise so out of it I don't know what's happening these days.
