Im sure many of you heard of medical marijuana before right?, And all the benefits that it has to offer. As more research develops more and more people are turning to marijuana not only for a pain treatment alternative but a cure as well. When people mention common illnesses we tend to think of the cold or flu. Many people accept this as just another every day sickness since we often get them and they easily are treated. However there are other common sicknesses they many people get often get but are not so easily curable. Below we will discuss five common sickness that are not so easily curable but marijuana is proving was it can not only help with these sickinesses but cure them as well.
Cancer Marijuana contains active components called cannabinoids. These cannabinoids inhibit tumor growth and also kills cancer cells. The principal psychoactive compound of the marijuana plant is call tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC targets cannabinoid receptors similar in function to endocannabinoids. Which are cannabinoids that are naturally created in your body and activates these receptors. Studies show that CBD has the ability to turn off the gene that is responsible for metastasis. Metastasis is when cancer is in is advanced stage it begins to spread to other organs. Cannabis has been used to treat many different types of cancer such as brain cancer as well as melanoma to name a few. Its also known to treat Glioblastoma multiforme this is known to be one of the most difficult cancers to treat since it doesn`t responds well to conventional methods like radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Epilepsy
There are lots of evidence that suggest that cannabinoid compounds are anti-convulsant (In other words a treatments known to help with epileptic seizures). Many studies on children show that cannabinoid therapy may be the most effective treatment available for epileptics. The cannabinoids negates the seizures from ever happening by balancing neuro-excitation. In other words cannabinoids keep the neurons from getting to excited which can cause the seizure. Patients reported that if they have a regular supply of cannabis they are not as dependent of prescription drugs as well as do not experience any seizures.
Multiple Sclerosis
Research shows that CBD helps with similar symptoms to multiple sclerosis. The way it helps with these symptoms are by preventing immune cells from mutating and attacking the insulating covers of nerve cells in the spinal cord. Test were done on mice where their limbs were partially paralyzed and then injected with cannabinoids. After being injected with cannabinoids the mice where able to regain movement shortly and able to walk normal again. Its been recorded that mice treated with CBD had much less inflammation in their spinal cord then the untreated mice. This study shows that cannabis can have a direct impact on slowing and eventually reversing multiple sclerosis. It should be noted that if severe damage has been done to the mylein sheath cannabis will no longer be able to restore muscle function, Early detection is key.
Alzheimer’s Disease
It is found that THC is capable of slowing the arrangement of beta amyloid. This is the plaque that builds in the brains of Alzheimer disease patients and reduces their cognitive function. After researchers examined the effect of THC on beta amyloid protein precursor cells they discovered that at 6, 24, and 48hrs mark THC constantly lowered beta amyloid levels.
ADHD
Distraction is a common symptom for ADHD. Roughly 70% of the brains function is to regulate input to the other 30%. A possible cause of ADHD is the decreased ability to suppress sensory input for both internal and external. In other words the brain gets overwhelmed from receiving too much information too soon. This is caused by a dopamine dysfunction. Many studies reveal that cannabis balances the dopamine system and can be a treatment for ADHD. It does this by clearing up the dopamine and lowering the over stimulation of the brain. Another benefit that cannabis has compared to traditional treatments like Ritalin is that is causes no side effects. Where Ritalin has been known to cause side effects such as difficulty sleeping, stomach aches, and diarrhea. There are also rare cases where Ritalin has been linked to death due to burst blood vessels and heart failure.
With all these studies done on marijuana shows that it can be a cure for many hard to treat illnesses. But only time will tell if these cures will replace traditional prescription treatments.
