A new week began and my little students seemed quite energized after the weekend. Today I had an hour of Art with the second graders and I decided to make a quick and very easy craft with some writing paper, glue and markers.
Uhm... What are we looking at, Miss?
Airplanes of course!!!
Let me guide you step by step on what we did here...
First, we cut out some square pieces of paper and then two-inch wide stripes for the wings and half-inch wide stripes for the tails.
Then, the kids were left to paint the pieces however they liked. Some painted the whole body, others only drew smiley faces or even wrote their names or football team on the wings of their planes.
Once all the pieces were ready, I stepped in and helped the kids glue the different parts the right way. I had to help out all of them, as it seemed a little confusing for them. They started glueing the wings underneath the body, so I needed to make sure everybody understood where each part should go.
They seemed to live their planes so much, they started flying them around the classroom and even compete with each other. They were so thrilled they even brought them to the after school class and played with them during recess time. One sadly got out of the school yard and got blown away by the strong wind we had yesterday. I need to make another one now to cheer my little student up. Fortunately it's a very easy craft and it won't take me more than five minutes to make one little guy happy again!!
