This beat uses a short clip from "say a little prayer" by Aretha Franklin. I wanted to try my best to honor her passing with this new beat. I'm calling it a "minimix" because it's basically two variations on the same beat. One is a slower tempo and the other is a dancehall appropriate version. The smooth transition between the two connects the similar but different ideas! Which version do you like best?


I experimented with several ideas I've been wanting to explore here, and they largely pay off, I'd say! One of them is side-chaining the reverb to the drums. I admittedly played into this quite a bit by feeding the delay into the reverb as well.. Created some interesting sounds, so I went with it! The other thing I did here was to add effects to the master rack to emulate live performance playfulness. There's nothing truly perfect about this one, but perhaps that lingering human quality to it will be enduring.
