Hi guys,
Welcome to my blog once again. I hope we are all doing well. It’s another week and what a way to start it with a great topic. Whenever I hear the word “technology”, two terms come to mind. Modern-day and traditional days are the terms that come to mind.
People who were born before computers and all this technology have argued that life was better before the introduction of technology. They argue that technology and its inventions have only caused more harm than good to the world. Well, for everything that is created or invented, there is always a good side and a bad side to it.
The only time I see that thing to be a risk is when that thing is doing more harm than good. Well, I might side with the older generation on some of the things they say which are, with the introduction of technology children are not able to develop certain skills that they are meant to have.
This is something I find very interesting, as children, we tend to play with our peers a lot. The moment you wake up and have your breakfast you zoom out of the house at the slightest opportunity to play with your peers.
Now with the introduction of technology, children have tablets on which they can play with. Remote toy cars that can move them around. Television shows cartoons from morning till evening it’s not even compulsory to have to play with his peers to enjoy his day. As time goes on the child grows up to be someone antisocial.
Now, when it comes to education I actually think technology is doing more good than harm. Technology has paved way for certain people in ways you didn’t even think were ever possible. In the past, we had to know everything, like every piece of information from who was the first president of your country to the last.
Now, many people are arguing that the syllables in school should change cause knowing who the first president was and blah blah adds nothing to your life if google can provide you with that information.
Technological literacy is a big part of the world now, without it you would probably not go far. In our kind of setting(the African setting), we are made to believe that you only need a phone at a certain level. Some argue that it’s not the best but sometimes I do agree with them when you end up seeing the damage the phones can have on little children.
In Africa, most boarding schools don’t allow their kids to use gadgets because it defeats the purpose of the boarding house. A boarding house we believe trains you and helps you grow without these gadgets.
When I was in jhs, shs I had no use for a mobile phone even though I had one in school. We only used it for calls, searching things on social media and other things which were of no value to my studies. Moving on to the university has shown why you need a gadget. In the university, these gadgets are the things which help make your life in the university better.
With a laptop, you are good to go. When an assignment is given you can quickly google some examples to make you understand the concept. When a topic is taught in class you are at liberty to go back to YouTube and have a look at the class from a different point of view, this can broaden your mind.
Apart from searching, it makes submitting assignments a lot easier and more convenient. Apart from school life, it helps you in taking online courses and trying out new things.
So for me, technological devices are a nuisance at a certain stage in your educational ladder but it’s quite the opposite when you are in the university. In fact, after university, that’s when you will need it more for your work.
I think the future of education and technology is actually bright with how things are going. There are new inventions which are being created which will change the game. Some of these are already with us and we can see the good impact it already has.
Thank you for reading.
