About Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III is built between 1896 - 1900. It is a Beaux-Art style bridge, covered with vintage lantern posts, nymphs, cherubims, and golden sculptured winged horses. The bridge was named after Czar Alexander III, who was a peacekeeper in the Russian Empire. His son, Nicolaas II, placed the first stone in 1896. The bridge symbolizes the coalition between the French and Russian Alliance. The style of the bridge flows over from the Grand Palais, which is located right behind the bridge.

The construction of the bridge is considered to be a wonder in the 19th century, where a 6-meter height arch made of steel crosses the Seine. One of the critical points of constructing the bridge was that it may not cross the view of the Champs-Élysées and Invalides.

Summary

When I spoke about Paris with @lackofcolor and tried to explain what the capital looked like, I remember the way how Pont Alexandre III looked like. It was the bridge I couldn't stop talking about. I still find it one of the most impressive bridges I've ever seen to date. It is probably -the- most impressive bridge I've ever seen. Huge statutes surround the entrance and exit. Wide lanes for people and cars to cross.

The weather was nice, a bit too hot to be walking the entire day to be honest, especially since I have a foot infection. At the time of writing, this is luckily almost all over. Not yet complete, but it is drastically changed since I discovered it about a year ago.

While I'm looking back at the photographs that I took of it, I kind of regret not taking a close-up of the statues. I think I was too busy trying to get the whole bridge in one frame. In all the photographs there was so much lens dirt. It took me about 5-10 minutes for every photograph to clean them. Lackofcolor helped me swipe one of them as well.

I used my Sony A7R II, and several lenses to photograph this bridge.

I'll definitely be trying to see if I can make some art from one of the golden-winged horses. The clouds in the photograph were so nice to have! This bridge may be one of the most famous bridges in Paris. Of course, you also have Pont-Neuf, and Pont des Arts (and all the other bridges crossing the Seine, but personally, I think this is the most beautiful one.

I just love the first photograph with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
