I've been thinking a LOT about life. Midlife crisis, legacy, all of those thoughts when you mature enough to know life is short, family is paramount and we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors.
I just got back from a trip to Utah. Driving along the lonely highways 130 to the 257 those thoughts of our ancestors, the explorers who founded this route, both native & modern brewed into a storm that lasted days. Part of that storm involved thinking the people who died trying to get to the Titanic the other week. Explorers have brought adventure, life and purpose to the world. Yes, there have been negative events, but here we are, in a better place.
I salute the people who sought exploration and adventure. They offered their lives in pursuit of the unknown. Many, like the Titanic passengers and the Titan sub adventurers paid with their lives, but without them where would we be?
I often think about the mountains I climb, the deserts I walk, the minerals I find, am I the first to do so? Obviously for the minerals, I am the first because there they are, but have I walked the path first? Have I climbed the mountain in that particular spot first? It's an important thought to those of us that explore and appreciate explorers.
So for those of you that explore, whether it be the micro or the macro, have a wonderful life and godspeed! And to those we lost, thank you for your endeavors.
