This is an awesome piece of citrine I picked up out in Quartzite, AZ. Citrine is a variety of quartz. The yellow to orange to red color comes from iron inclusions in the quartz. Two very common minerals that create beautiful crystals. I'm not a huge fan of citrine or amethyst just because it is so common. Still, it's a beautiful stone, you just have to find the right specimens like this one.
The deep red/orange on this piece really caught my eye. Most citrine you see is more yellowish, so when I saw this piece and a few others like it I picked them up.

Unfortunately we just sold it. I always forget to pick up enough pieces so we can add at least one to our collection. I guess that means I now have a mission to hunt and find one to add to our collection. One of the joys of collecting is the hunt. Lucky for me there are 2 large mineral shows here in Southern California this weekend!
