Venezuela’s military is on high alert following a ‘mercenary’ incursion

New film footage shows members of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) patroling mountains in the northern state of La Guaira, 10 days after alleged ‘mercenaries’ tried to enter the country and - again, allegedly - assassinate President Nicolás Maduro.

That raid on 3 May - named ‘Operation Gideon’ - was thwarted by the FANB and has led to dozens of arrests and at least eight deaths. Of those detained, two are US private security contractors.

The FANB patrols are assisted by local community organisations who warn them of - and sometimes capture - alleged intruders.
