Lonetree Protector: The Forest Guardian Who’d Rather Work Than Give Speeches
Greetings, Splinterlands warriors!
We’ve finally reached the sixth and final character in the Mystery Cards series introduced through the Visions of Verico feature. Meet Lonetree Protector, a Drakoshan character with an Earth/Dragon combination, created in collaboration with Lonetree.
From the story and appearance alone, I immediately got the impression that this isn’t the kind of hero who enjoys standing on a stage delivering long speeches. He’d much rather carry a staff for planting, gather seeds, and get on with the work he believes needs to be done.
He even has a habit of talking to trees. In his opinion, other people shouldn’t keep interrupting when a tree is trying to answer.
At this point, I’m not sure whether we’re dealing with a forest guardian or someone who takes gardening a little too seriously. But after reading his story, I began to understand why he turned out this way.
Long ago, a massive fire destroyed the valley where he lived. Amid the devastation, only one oak tree managed to survive.
Its trunk was charred. Its branches were bare. At first glance, many people would probably have assumed the tree had no hope of recovering.
But Lonetree didn’t see it that way.
He cared for the tree throughout the winter. He carried water, tended to its wounds, and kept assuring it that spring was worth waiting for.
When the tree finally produced acorns, Lonetree didn’t waste the opportunity. He planted every single one.
From that one surviving tree, a forest gradually grew around it.
To me, this is the heart of Lonetree Protector’s character. He didn’t start with extraordinary power or some grand plan to change the world. He started by caring for a single tree that still had a chance to live.
And as it turned out, that small act of work led to something much bigger.
Today, Lonetree travels around helping struggling farms and neglected patches of forest. He offers practical assistance, teaches people how to identify trees that are safe to cut down, and protects seedlings when bad weather arrives.
Of course, he also loves giving unsolicited advice. Sometimes, even vegetables become the subject of his debates.
But there’s a good message behind that personality: if you want to see change happen, don’t just wait for someone else to do the work.
I think this lesson also applies to the Splinterlands community. You don’t have to be a top-ranked player to make a difference. Small contributions, made consistently, can also help a community grow.
That’s one of the interesting things about Visions of Verico. Lonetree Protector himself was born from a collaboration with a community member. One contributor’s idea became part of the world of Praetoria, complete with its own artwork, identity, and story.
To me, this shows that Splinterlands isn’t just a place where we collect cards and battle. It also gives the community room to help enrich the world they enjoy together.
Of the six Mystery Cards characters introduced so far, Lonetree Protector brings the series to a warm and fitting close. He reminds us that being a guardian doesn’t always mean standing on the front lines with a weapon raised. Sometimes, being a guardian means making sure something fragile stays alive until it can stand on its own.
