Greetings, Splinterlands warriors!
Last season, I had to accept a rather simple reality: I didn't manage to climb to Gold I. It wasn't because my strategy suddenly disappeared from my head, nor because my cards had suddenly gone on strike. The problem was much simpler—work had gotten busy, leaving me with less time to play Splinterlands.
That's life, I suppose. Sometimes we already have a plan to push our rank, but work simply says, "Not right now."
Things are starting to look different now. I can see that I'll have more free time ahead to play. And so, an old goal that had been put on hold has come back to mind: going after Gold I again.
As a first step, I started playing a few battles in Modern Mode. There was no need to set an overly ambitious target right away. Just play, climb little by little, and see how well I can perform after being less active for a while.
Surprisingly, the early journey went quite smoothly.
Before I knew it, I had already reached Gold III.
And of course, every time you climb a tier, there's a little bonus that makes the journey more enjoyable: reward chests.
And whenever I hear the word "chest," my curiosity immediately kicks in.
"I wonder what's inside?"
That's the disease of every gamer. The moment we get a chest, we start imagining what's inside. Even though, before opening it, we really have no right to expect too much. But that's human nature—we hope anyway.
This time, I received 11 chests, including 4 Major Chests.
So I started opening them one by one.
The first interesting result was Careless Badger, a Rare card. Not bad. At least the opening didn't start with something that made me sigh deeply.
After that came some Merits and several Common cards, including Grim Bonewhip.
I still consider Common cards useful. Especially in a collection-based game like Splinterlands, additional cards mean additional BCX. Once you have enough copies, the card can level up. So even though not every reward makes me excited, I can't really say the rewards were useless.
Then another Rare card appeared.
This time, it was Pixie-Knife Hurler from Life.
Now we're getting somewhere.
I'm always happy whenever I see a Rare card appear from a chest. Not just because the color looks more convincing, but also because it gives me the feeling that the opening is starting to provide something that can actually help grow my collection.
But the real surprise came near the end.
After opening several chests, an Epic card finally appeared.
Its name was Joraki Venshiro.
I immediately thought, "Now that's a proper ending."
Getting an Epic along with several Rares from 11 chests was, in my opinion, enough to make this reward session pretty satisfying. Sure, there was no Legendary card. But I don't think it's fair to expect a Legendary every time we open a chest. If we did that, when would we ever appreciate the other cards?
What makes the reward system interesting is precisely the element of surprise.
We battle to climb the tiers. Once we rank up, we receive chests. Then those chests give us a chance to get cards, Merits, and various other items. This simple cycle gives me another reason to keep playing.
And for me, there's an additional reason now.
Gold I.
I've already reached Gold III. That means I just need to continue the journey, improve my strategy, and, of course, make time to play.
The results from these 11 chests are enough to give me some motivation. There was Careless Badger, Pixie-Knife Hurler, Grim Bonewhip, and, the one that made me smile the most, Joraki Venshiro.
Still no Legendary, though.
But who knows?
Maybe the next chest is hiding the card I've been waiting for all this time. And if I don't get one, well, that's fine. That's the thing about opening chests—it's not the same as opening a savings account.
The important thing is that I now have another chance to chase Gold I.
Hopefully, I'll have more time to play, my strategies will continue to improve, and the next tier will come soon.
And if I eventually make it to Gold I, there's one more thing I'll be looking forward to:
the next batch of chests.
Because apparently, besides wanting to climb the ranks, I've also become curious about what's inside those chests.
And that's my Gold III story this time. Not a bad haul, enough to put a smile on my face, and most importantly, enough to motivate me to continue the journey toward Gold I.
