Greetings, Splinterlands warriors.
Another season has come and gone. Some players return with victories, while others have to accept the reality that the leaderboard still doesn’t want to be friends with them. I’m one of the latter.
At the end of this season, I failed to make it onto the leaderboard, even though I managed to reach Gold II in Modern Mode. It’s okay. That’s how gaming goes. Sometimes we’re on top, and sometimes we have to step down a little to see whether the strategy we’ve been using is actually strong enough.
But when it comes to Glint, this season wasn’t too disappointing.
From all my battles throughout the season, I managed to collect 21,458 Glint. Then I received an additional 20,000 Glint for finishing 45th on the Survival Mode leaderboard. On top of that, I still had some Glint left over from the previous season that I had deliberately saved.
Put it all together, and the total became quite a decent amount.
And as usual, once I see my Glint balance getting fat, my hands start getting itchy.
There were cards I wanted to strengthen. There were several monsters that were already close to reaching their next level. So rather than letting my Glint simply sit quietly in my account, I decided to use it to strengthen my collection.
This time, I chose the Epic Draw route.
I prepared around 117,000 Glint and used it to open 7 Epic Draws.
This wasn’t a decision I made without thinking. If I had chosen chests instead, there would certainly have been a bigger sense of excitement and luck involved. I might have gotten something surprising. But if my main goal was to strengthen cards I already owned, Card Draw felt like the more logical choice.
Unfortunately, no Gold Foil card appeared this time.
Well...
Not every opening has to end with a Gold Foil card. If we got a Gold Foil every time we opened a draw, it wouldn’t be called luck anymore. It would be a miracle.
Still, one card caught my attention.
RILA FEN.
It turned out to be a brand-new card that I didn’t previously have in my collection.
Now, getting a completely new card immediately changes how I feel about the result. I’m not just getting extra BCX for a card I already own; I’m also expanding the range of cards I can potentially use in battle.
But the most interesting part of the story actually came from another card.
TANDI JANDA appeared twice.
For a player who is chasing upgrades, getting two copies like this isn’t just about adding a few more cards to the collection. I immediately checked how many BCX I had already accumulated beforehand.
And it turned out...
It was enough.
Tandi Janda could finally be upgraded to Level 2.
So, those two copies of Tandi Janda that appeared weren’t simply extra cards.
They became the missing pieces that allowed me to make one of the cards in my collection even more battle-ready.
That’s where I feel the Card Draw feature has its own unique appeal.
And when a new ability finally unlocks, that’s when you realize that all the effort spent collecting those cards actually had a purpose.
This season, I may not have made it back onto the leaderboard.
Gold II in Modern is already pretty decent, but of course, I still want more.
Now that I’ve spent my Glint again, my job is simple: start collecting all over again.
I’ll go back to battling, hunting for Glint, strengthening my cards, and trying to bring this account back to the leaderboard like I did in previous seasons.
And if Tandi Janda, with its Slow ability, manages to help me win a few important battles later on, maybe I’ll consider the 117,000 Glint I spent this time to have been completely worth it.
In the end, I didn’t get a Gold Foil. There was no legendary card celebration. But I did get Rila Fen as a brand-new card and managed to upgrade Tandi Janda to Level 2, unlocking its Slow ability.
For me, that’s already enough.
Because in Splinterlands, sometimes the card we’re looking for isn’t the most expensive one.
It’s the card that makes our strategy just a little bit sharper.
